Solo 471 Solo Backpack Blower – 53 CC, 235 MPH, 705 CFM, Model# 471-KAT

Solo Backpack Blower – 53 CC, 235 MPH, 705 CFM, Model# 471-KAT

That Solo makes great equipment is no secret – That Solo makes the BEST backpack blowers just might be… The Solo 471/472 are really, truly, very high quality commercial equipment that simply work better and harder than just about every other Large blower out there.

IN the past I’ve used most of them, including the usual competitors for ‘top spot’ among most landscapers, the Stihl BR600 and the Redmax 8000/1, Echo, etc… And while they all have their strong points, none of these seems to get it all right like these Solo’s.

For instance, the Redmax blows pretty hard no question, but no harder than the 471 (the 472 is stronger) and the airstream is much harder to direct, they are REALLY a lot heavier (35lbs to the Solo’s 20), very, very loud, and they have had a lot of issues lately including recalls, design problems and now the Husquavarna merger which is generally agreed upon to be a very, very bad thing… I’m pretty sure we’re going to keep on hearing of the problems with these things. Some earlier models were more reliable, but not in the same class as the Solo’s. The Stihl ‘600 is VERY popular, but again if you read a lot of reviews and opinions about this type of equipment you see the same sort thing. Continual complaining about the 4MIX engines, not nearly as powerful as the hype would have you believe, some pretty cheap plastic build quality and again and again you hear people saying that they prefer older, less powerful models (like the tried and true BR400) from this company for reliability factors. I don’t really like mine, although it is much easier to use and direct than the Redmax line.

The Solo line-up is smaller, just three blowers, one hand-held and two almost identical backpacks, but a long history of design with backpack equipment (Solo also makes A LOT of the very best sprayers – since like the 50’s or something…) and to be honest, I think that they are smarter for it. They certainly have all of the bugs worked out. I’ve not spoken to anyone yet with any problems at all. The two BP models have almost all identical parts. Easy to get too. Of the largest blowers, they are the strongest (see below)and the lightest -21lbs or so… with fuel… which by the way, gives you 2 hours on a single tank! And it meets the California standards….(noise AND emissions)

They are also know as EXTREMELY quiet machines (64db), which is a huge problem with all other manufacturers. Leaf blowers are notorious in this regard and this figure alone probably puts them on top for a lot of people. REally comfortable to use for long periods of time.

The specs are all usable, end of tube figures too(235/255 mph and 700+/900+ cfm’s) which is a huge help when comparing – not to mention when working… Really, there isn’t a lot wrong to say about these things. More and more of the pro’s are switching over after bad experiences with the bigger companies. Solo makes their own stuff, and it really works well. And to finish, they a a little less expensive too…

Hard to argue with that!

I did SO MUCH research before I bought my newest blowers and these things continually amaze me. Simply better designed than any blower I’ve used.

perpetual motion – heinz emmerick – stuggart germany
i heard that a solo 470-01 green blower could run forever without gas. well it’s a nice idea, the perpetual motion. sometimes i feel that the snail shape of the solo green blower is a dream, it is inclusive. the green plastic is so outrageous and high quality it is superior to even the fabled cifarelli. hot air you say…it makes air and lots of it. but it is sweet. the only problem i found is the hp can blow the muffler gasket, it’s that strong. i wound mine out so far it popped, and hasn’t been the same since. too much power and too much air. it is the porsche of blowers, the german answer to the garden autobahn. gets dirty inside the housing after using it for 100,000 hours. love garrido

Great Product!!! – Philip C. Hutter – Richmond, VA
This backpack blower is great for any size yard. We have over 60 oak trees and it has performed well with no issues. This has to be the easiest power tool to start. I’ve tried a few other backpack blowers and this one is better by far. It’s not only powerful but has less noise and lasts between 2-1/2 and 3 hours on full blast with the gas/oil mix. If you are looking for a blower this is the one to get.

Couple of issues – David – Tryon, NC
Received unit and was missing the end nozzle. Also trigger linkage not working correctly. Started and ran well (though not able to control the speed), comfortable to wear.

Called Solo 800 number and talked to a technician — VERY responsive — they are shipping a replacement end nozzle and are sending UPS to pickup the unit to repair it in Newport VA (home office)and ship it back.

Great service so far – will try and rereview the item performance once I get it back.

Husqvarna Lawn Mower – Elite Commercial Machines

Husqvarna lawn mowers are among the best in quality and dependability. You can be assured of the excellence of the Husqvarna name: the company was founded in Sweden in 1689. Not many companies can boast over three hundred years of experience. Husqvarna started with making muskets and progressed through the years to a variety of outdoor equipment, such as mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, riding mowers, snow blowers, and much more. Taking care of your home and your lawn is a commitment that Husqvarna takes seriously. Husqvarna mowers are equal to any challenge and can help you maintain a beautiful and inviting yard.

Husqvarna lawn mowers come in a variety of styles. There are old school manual mowers, gas or diesel-powered push mowers, solar powered robotic mowers, and most popular, the Husqvarna riding mowers. Before you purchase a Husqvarna mower, ask yourself these questions to make sure you select the right one for your needs:

o How big is your lawn and what is the layout? Are there lots of obstacles a mower will have to go around? This will help you determine the proper model of mower you will need, and also if you need a riding mower, garden tractor, and so on.

o How often do you mow your lawn? For instance, if you regularly maintain your lawn, you may find the BioClip method most appropriate. The finely cut trimmings are returned to the lawn for fertilizer. For taller or courser grass, you may want a side or rear ejection model.

o Do you want a manual or automatic gear shift?

o Can you easily find Husqnarva mower parts in your area? Being able to easily and quickly replace a damaged or worn out part is essential. (Although, being able to order parts online makes this much easier).

You can also find accessories for your Husqvarna mower, regardless of the model. There are BioClip plugs, collector bags, seed boxes, bagging kits, trimmer attachments, and more.

Husqvarna has been changing and adapting with the needs of homeowners for more than three centuries, all the while keeping the same quality and value. Husqvarna can keep your lawn looking beautiful and save you a lot of frustration with mowing.

Range Hood Shopping 101

How’s your range hood? Some people may not even realize what one of those is. Those people may have some sense that something doesn’t look quite right about their kitchen, or may feel like their kitchen gets too smoky when they are cooking on the burners, but are not quite sure why. The answer, of course, is that they do not have a range hood that is both a good aesthetic fit for the kitchen and functional for blowing and dissipating cooking smoke.

It’s very important to find a range hood that fits your stove and your kitchen, which is why there are so many different types. There are canopy hoods and under cabinet hoods, but you can even go the extra mile and get a chimney wall hood, chimney island hood or downdraft hood which is situated behind the cooktop. They also come in a variety of widths to fit a variety of stoves.

Range hoods also vary with respect to strength of the exhaust fan, type of blower, how the smoke is vented and how the hood is shaped. Many have multiple fan speeds that can be altered depending on the type of cooking you are doing, whether it’s boiling water or frying up a steak. They can even contain heat lamps to keep food warm, and some are set to automatically turn up the fan speed when high levels of heat are detected.

Range hoods can vary greatly in price, so you should definitely take the time to make sure you have found the right one before you buy. This means not only one that will fit with your current stove and kitchen arrangement, but one that has all the features you want as well.

Wood Chippers – Buy New, Buy Used, Or Make Your Own?

Wood Chippers, Shredders and Grinders are fantastic tools for anyone who owns land and wants to keep it in good condition. Whether you have lots of brush to rid yourself of or larger trees which you need to clear, a Wood Chipper can certainly take care of your needs.

But the question becomes, what kind of Wood Chipper should you try to acquire? New Wood Chippers can be quite expensive if you are looking for a more sturdy, industrial sized one. Small 5-10 HP Wood Chippers are cheaper, but will they suit your needs?

Used Wood Chippers obviously will cost less than their brand new counterparts, so they may be a good place to look. You never know however, how it was treated by its previous owner, so you should be sure you trust the person selling it to you. Just like you do not want to buy a “lemon” car, the same applies to things such as Wood Chippers. If the engine has not been properly maintained, or if the cutting blades have not been checked often, you may very well be buying a poor piece of machinery.

The final option is making your own Wood Chipper. This is a growing trend and hobby among outdoor enthusiasts, but it comes with a very high amount of risk. Wood Chippers are an extremely dangerous piece of equipment. If you need to know what exactly they are capable of, go rent the movie “Fargo”.

Therefore, it is incredibly important that you take extreme care if you do decide to make your own Wood Chipper. There are a number of resource on the web which give basic plans and groundworks for doing this, but as a general principle I would strongly advise against it unless you are an extremely savvy mechanical user.

Tools For Garden Landscape Design

Whether you are a beginner landscape designer or have done some DIY landscaping the past, it can often be difficult to come up with ideas. Garden landscape design can seem like a very complex proposition to someone who hasn’t had lots of practice, which is why it’s important to follow the number one rule – keep it simple! It is also a good idea to look around at which designs you like so that you can see what has worked for other people, as well as deciding what you think hasn’t worked so well. You don’t have to come up with completely unique garden landscape design ideas after all.

The great thing about garden landscape designing is that it can be a lot of fun! Imagining, designing and then finally creating your perfect garden can be a wonderful way to spend your free time, and at the end of it you have a personal space that you can relax and enjoy.

Before you decide on what kind of landscaping you want in the garden though you need to decide on what kind of garden you want. You should also make sure that you have all the tools available that you need for the job. Different landscape designs will need different tools, but in general there are certain landscaping tools that you should have at all times.

Two of the most important tools you need to make sure you have are a small tiller and a small trowel. The tiller is used to break up the soil and hence make it more manageable, and the trowel is used to dig holes for plants and for digging up weeds. Both of these will be used regularly and you should make sure that you buy high quality versions of each.

No matter how beautiful your landscaped garden is, at some point you are going to get weeds and you need to have an effective way of getting rid of them. That’s why one tool that you should never be without is a weeding tool. This will help you to save lots of time and make it easier for you to get rid of the pesky weeds that threaten to overrun all your hard work.

Having a larger spade is also vitally important. While the trowel is used to dig smaller holes the spade is essential when you need to dig bigger holes or move large quantities of soil.

There are plenty of other tools that you might find you need to landscape your garden but these are just a few of the ones you should always have to perform effective landscape and garden maintenance.

Garbage ( AVOID ) – D. Kaufman –
The fan should be avoided! Has a duration of about 2 months, as the engine in all respects intensive is Dead! Did also test what this term?

So I brought my brand new unit DEAD for the repair and covered warranty.Only problem is that distributors Makita tool is currently still very well known, how to solve. They propose a new carb and some new parts and try it because I Guess minute to call and he says, is to continue as too low and behold, it does not have the power to use ready.Iand die easily.

So I bring it back? Whats The Game Plan here, a few dozen trips to do it fixed as it falls under the guarantee in the next year? So my total use was suspended for two months and 2 months in the workshop and one months use as winter and as security is gone, and I think he did throw. Wasted $ 450.

I really dont see how this can lead Makita useless junk on the market! The basic design of the engine is a joint trainwreck.I to say that this model iscompletely blocked or redsigned. Or are they more of these to go peddle to unsuspecting customers like me?

Buying a Lawn Mower for YOUR Lawn

The lawn: for some it’s just a weekend chore, others however think of it as a great escape. Like it or hate it, it has to be maintained and that means buying the right lawn mower to get the job done. Which lawn mower you choose depends on the size and grass density of your lawn as well as your budget and the features you need.

Size and density: The size of your lawn determines the size of lawn mower as well as well as the type. Lawn mowers generally fall under two categories reel and rotary. If your lawn is 1,000 square feet (100 square m) or less you may want to choose a manual reel. However, if your lawn is large, consider getting a riding mower.

Grass density: You should consider the thickness of your lawn when buying a lawn mower. It will help you determine the blade and rotary type. If your grass is a soft bladed type, not Bermuda or Saint Augustine, then consider a reel mower. A plastic blade can be used for gardens where there is no risk of your mower blade being damaged by mowing a brick or large stones.

Catcher or thatcher?: If you want to catch the clippings of your lawn choose one with a rear mounting catching. If not, then consider a thatcher mower. It cuts the grass into small pieces and then blows them down into the lawn for a fertile covering.

Low maintenance: Most people want to spend more time caring for their lawn than their lawn mowers, so here are a couple low maintenance options for you to consider when buying a lawn mower.

Rotary types are easy to operate and sharpen. They also tend to be inexpensive.

-Self-propelled mowers are when the motor turns the wheel. These are good for slopes. Front-propelled types are easy to operate.

Go Green: Many people prefer gas mowers for their power; however, they pollute and are noisy. If you want a more environmentally friendly option, consider an electric mower. When buying an electric lawn mower find out if the cord length is enough for your lawn. They usually tend to be a 100 feet (30 m) in length. If you opt for a cordless model, be sure to check the battery length. You want to get through at least one mowing before it dies.

When buying a lawn mower also keep these considerations in mind.

Can you maneuver it? This is important if you have to mow around trees or shrubs.

Is it too heavy? Light lawn mowers are easy to maneuver and handle without comprising quality.

How easy is it to start the mower?

How easy is it to raise or lower the cutting height?

Is there a switch to shut off the blade?

Buying the right lawn mower for your lawn is essential to maintaining a health, lush lawn.
